


{"id":9547,"date":"2022-10-08T03:28:54","date_gmt":"2022-10-07T21:58:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=9547"},"modified":"2025-03-29T14:00:10","modified_gmt":"2025-03-29T08:30:10","slug":"online-gaming-industry-in-india","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/online-gaming-industry-in-india\/","title":{"rendered":"Online gaming industry in India"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The task force has proposed the creation of a central regulatory body for the sector, clearly defining what games of skill and chance are, and bringing online gaming under the purview of the\u00a0<strong>Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Recommendations of the task force<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>A central-level law for online gaming<\/strong>\u00a0should apply to real money and free games of skill, including e-sports, online fantasy sports contests, and card games etc.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Casual games with no real money<\/strong>\u00a0element in the form of stakes may be kept outside the scope of such rules, unless they have a high number of users in India.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Creating a regulatory body<\/strong>, which will determine what qualifies as a game of skill or chance, and accordingly certify different gaming formats, seek compliance etc.<\/li>\n<li><strong>A three-tier dispute resolution mechanism<\/strong>, similar to that prescribed under the Information Technology Rules, 2021 for online streaming services.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Any online gaming platform \u2013 domestic or foreign<\/strong>\u2013 offering real money online games to Indian users will need to be a legal entity incorporated under Indian law.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Why a central-level law?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Online gaming so far has been a\u00a0<strong>state subject,\u00a0<\/strong>but state governments find it extremely difficult to enforce certain rules like geo-blocking certain apps or websites within the territory of their state.<\/li>\n<li>Also,\u00a0<strong>rules passed in one state are not applicable in another<\/strong>, which has caused inconsistency.<\/li>\n<li>State governments also\u00a0<strong>do not have enough blocking powers like the Centre to issue blocking orders for offshore betting sites.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Online gaming market in India<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The revenue of the Indian mobile gaming industry is expected to exceed\u00a0<strong>$1.5 billion in 2022, and is estimated to reach $5 billion in 2025.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The industry in the\u00a0<strong>country grew at a CAGR of 38%\u00a0<\/strong>between 2017-2020, as opposed to 8% in China and 10% in the US.<\/li>\n<li>India\u2019s percentage of new paying users (NPUs) in gaming has been the\u00a0<strong>fastest growing in the world<\/strong>\u00a0for two consecutive years, at 40% in 2020 and 50% in 2021.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Source :\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/pib.gov.in\/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=1865779\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">PIB<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Market size of the gaming industry India FY 2019-2026.
