calling \u200cfor an extension of the World Trade Organization E-commerce Moratorium.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About E-commerce Moratorium<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a global <\/span><b>agreement among <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/world-trade-organisation\/\" target=\"_blank\">World Trade Organization<\/a> members.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It <\/span><b>bans customs duties being applied to electronic transmissions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> such as digital downloads and streaming.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was first \u200cadopted in 1998 at the <\/span><b>WTO\u2019s Second Ministerial Conference in \u200bGeneva<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as part of a declaration to encourage early digital \u2060trade growth.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It covers cross-border transmissions such as <\/span><b>software downloads, e-books, music and movie streaming and video games.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Originally intended to be temporary, the tariff moratorium has been renewed \u200croughly every two years at each WTO ministerial conference.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was most recently extended for <\/span><b>two years at the 13th conference \u200cin 2024.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is set to <\/span><b>expire this month at \u200cthe \u206014th WTO<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> ministerial conference in Yaounde, Cameroon<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>India argues that:<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It may lead to<\/span><b> significant revenue loss.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It restricts policy space in the digital economy.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight:
