15th Conference of Parties (COP15) to the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) forty new species were added to the protected list category.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is also <\/span><b>known as the Bonn Convention,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is an environmental treaty under the aegis of the <\/span><b><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/united-nations-environment-programme-unep\/\" target=\"_blank\">United Nations Environment Programme<\/a>.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It provides a global platform for the <\/span><b>conservation and sustainable use of migratory animals<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and their habitats.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was signed in Bonn, Germany, on <\/span><b>23 June 1979.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the <\/span><b>only global and UN-based intergovernmental organisation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> established exclusively for the conservation and management of <\/span><b>terrestrial, aquatic and avian migratory species<\/b> <b>throughout their range.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The parties to the convention acknowledge the importance of conserving migratory species, and the need to pay special attention to species whose conservation status is unfavourable.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Activities by CMS Parties may range from legally binding treaties (called Agreements) to less formal instruments, such as Memoranda of Understanding.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Conference of Parties<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (COP) is the <\/span><b>decision-making organ<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of this convention.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>It has two Appendices.\u00a0<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Appendix I <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">lists <\/span><b>endangered migratory <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">species and includes prohibitions regarding the take of these species.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b style=\"font-size: inherit;\">Appendix II <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">lists species that have <\/span><b style=\"font-size: inherit;\">an \u2018unfavourable conservation status\u2019<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (as per the conditions set out in the Convention) and encourages range states to draft range-wide
