Its main goal was to revive Indian society and religion by spreading knowledge of ancient scriptures and encouraging social reforms.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Tattvabodhini Sabha<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Overview<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Tattvabodhini Sabha was an important organization of the 19th-century Bengal Renaissance.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was founded on 6 October 1839 in Calcutta (now Kolkata) by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/debendranath-tagore\/\" target=\"_blank\">Debendranath Tagore<\/a><\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Sabha aimed to promote a rational and monotheistic form of Hinduism based on the Upanishads.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It also worked for social and religious reforms and spread its ideas through the journal Tattvabodhini Patrika.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Founder<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Debendranath Tagore was the founder of the Sabha.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He was the eldest son of Dwarkanath Tagore and the father of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/rabindranath-tagore\/\" target=\"_blank\">Rabindranath Tagore<\/a><\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He was a key leader of the Brahmo Samaj and formed this Sabha to strengthen its ideas.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Objectives<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To promote belief in one God (monotheism).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To spread the teachings of the Upanishads and Vedanta.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To reform Hindu society and remove outdated practices.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To protect Indian culture and religion from excessive Western and missionary influence.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To revive and study India\u2019s ancient knowledge and traditions.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Activities<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Sabha published a journal called Tattvabodhini Patrika.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The journal included articles on science, history, philosophy, and social issues in Bengali.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It helped spread education, awareness, and reformist ideas among people.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Sabha attracted many scholars and intellectuals of that time.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Role in Reform Movements<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Sabha played an important role in reviving the Brahmo Samaj, which had weakened after the death of Raja Ram Mohan Roy.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It helped revive and strengthen the Brahmo Samaj, especially after the death of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/raja-ram-mohan-roy\/\" target=\"_blank\">Raja Ram Mohan Roy<\/a><\/strong>, and was later fully merged into it in 1859.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It supported social reforms such as women\u2019s education and reducing caste discrimination.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>About Debendranath Tagore<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Debendranath Tagore was born on 15 May 1817 in Jorasanko, Calcutta (Kolkata).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He was the son of Dwarkanath Tagore, a wealthy industrialist, and Digambari Devi.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He was first educated at home and later studied at the Anglo Hindu College.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From a young age, he developed a strong interest in philosophy and spirituality.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 1839, he founded the Tattvabodhini Sabha to promote rational thinking and religious reform.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He joined the Brahmo Samaj in 1842 and played an important role in strengthening it.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He also established an ashram at Santiniketan, which later became famous under his son Rabindranath Tagore.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Major Contributions<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Brahmo Samaj: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He gave new life to the Brahmo Samaj by promoting belief in one God and opposing idol worship.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Revival of Brahmoism:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> After the death of Raja Ram Mohan Roy, he strengthened and organised the movement with clear ideas.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Tattvabodhini Sabha:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Founded in 1839, it encouraged the study of Upanishads and rational thinking; later it merged with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/brahmo-samaj\/\" target=\"_blank\">Brahmo Samaj<\/a><\/strong>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Tattvabodhini Patrika:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Started in 1843, this journal helped spread reformist and philosophical ideas among people.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Promotion of Scriptures:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> He translated important texts like the Katha Upanishad and parts of the Rig Veda into Bengali to make them easier to understand.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Writings:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> His works like style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> In 1863, he founded an ashram which later became a major centre of learning and
