{"id":96351,"date":"2026-04-03T12:38:34","date_gmt":"2026-04-03T07:08:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=96351"},"modified":"2026-04-03T12:38:34","modified_gmt":"2026-04-03T07:08:34","slug":"united-nations-interim-force-in-lebanon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/united-nations-interim-force-in-lebanon\/","title":{"rendered":"United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, India condemned the recent killing of three Indonesian peacekeepers who were deployed in south Lebanon as part of the UNIFIL (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon).<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>peacekeeping mission in south Lebanon.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was established by the Security Council <\/span><b>in 1978.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Background:<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Originally, UNIFIL was created by the Security Council in March 1978 <\/span><b>to confirm Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The mandate had to be adjusted twice, due to the developments in 1982 and 2000.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>In 2006,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the UN Security Council strengthened UNIFIL\u2019s mandate to <\/span><b>monitor the cessation of hostilities, among other tasks.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Objectives:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> UNIFIL&#8217;s objectives include:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Confirming Israeli withdrawal<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Restoring international peace and security<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Assisting the Lebanese Government in restoring its authority<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Monitoring the cessation of hostilitiesProtecting civilians and humanitarian workers<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">UNIFIL has around 7,505<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">peacekeepers coming from <\/span><b>47 troop-contributing.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has <\/span><b>the Maritime Task Force<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which is a naval peacekeeping force.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was deployed in October <\/span><b>2006 at the request of the Lebanese Government<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to help the Lebanese Navy secure the country\u2019s sea borders and other maritime entry points<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>India is also one of the troops<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> contributing countries.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/national\/india-slams-attacks-on-unifil-soldiers-does-not-name-israel\/article70815626.ece\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">TH<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon is a peacekeeping mission in south Lebanon.
