{"id":9671,"date":"2022-10-15T09:44:35","date_gmt":"2022-10-15T04:14:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=9671"},"modified":"2025-03-29T14:44:49","modified_gmt":"2025-03-29T09:14:49","slug":"global-hunger-index-ghi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/global-hunger-index-ghi\/","title":{"rendered":"Global Hunger Index (GHI)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Global Hunger Index (GHI):<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The Global Hunger Index (GHI) is a tool for comprehensively measuring and tracking hunger at global, regional, and national levels.<\/li>\n<li>It is prepared jointly by\u00a0Irish aid agency\u00a0<strong>Concern Worldwide<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0German organisation\u00a0<strong>Welt Hunger Hilfe<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>GHI scores are based on the values of\u00a0<strong>four component indicators<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Undernourishment<\/strong>\u00a0(share of the population with insufficient caloric intake),<\/li>\n<li><strong>child stunting<\/strong>\u00a0(the share of children under age five who have low height for their age, reflecting chronic under-nutrition),<\/li>\n<li><strong>child wasting<\/strong>\u00a0(acute under-nutrition in children under age five with low weight for their height),<\/li>\n<li><strong>child mortality<\/strong>\u00a0(the mortality rate of children under the age of five).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The GHI score is\u00a0calculated on a 100-point scale reflecting the severity of hunger, where zero is the best score (no hunger) and 100 is the worst.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Global Hunger Index (GHI) 2022:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>India\u2019s score of 2<strong>9.1 places it in the \u2018serious\u2019 category.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>India&#8217;s GHI score has decelerated &#8211; from 38.8 in 2000 to the range of 28.2 &#8211; 29.1 between 2014 and 2022.<\/li>\n<li>India also ranks below Sri Lanka (64), Nepal (81), Bangladesh (84), and Pakistan (99).
