{"id":9675,"date":"2026-06-23T13:11:00","date_gmt":"2026-06-23T07:41:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=9675"},"modified":"2026-06-23T13:57:46","modified_gmt":"2026-06-23T08:27:46","slug":"eco-sensitive-zones","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/eco-sensitive-zones\/","title":{"rendered":"Ecologically Sensitive Area"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Ecologically Sensitive Area Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Western Ghats, one of the world&#8217;s biodiversity hotspots, may soon receive stronger legal protection in at least three states through the notification of Ecologically Sensitive Areas (ESAs).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Ecologically Sensitive Area<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ESAs, also called <\/span><b>Eco-Sensitive Zones<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (ESZs) are designated regions identified for special environmental protection because of their <\/span><b>rich biodiversity, fragile ecosystems<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or critical ecological functions.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Central Government can notify certain<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> areas as Ecologically Sensitive Areas <\/span><b>under the <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/environment-protection-act-1986\/\" target=\"_blank\">Environment (Protection) Act, 1986<\/a>.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under this recognition certain activities are <\/span><b>prohibited, some are tightly regulated<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, while others are <\/span><b>encouraged to ensure developme<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">nt does not come at the cost of ecological damage.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Getting an ESA status also means that any development project in the area <\/span><b>will be subject to stricter environmental scrutiny<\/b><b>.<\/b><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Significance of ESZ<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Eco-Sensitive Zones are created as \u201cshock absorbers\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for the protected areas, to minimize the negative impact on the \u201cfragile ecosystems\u201d by certain human activities taking place nearby.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These areas are <\/span><b>meant to act as a transition zone<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from areas requiring higher protection to those requiring lesser protection.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source:<\/b> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.business-standard.com\/amp\/india-news\/western-ghats-esa-tag-ecologically-sensitive-areas-explained-126062200420_1.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">BS<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ecologically Sensitive Areas are designated regions identified for special environmental protection because of their rich biodiversity, fragile ecosystems or critical ecological functions.
