


{"id":9758,"date":"2022-10-09T03:29:44","date_gmt":"2022-10-08T21:59:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=9758"},"modified":"2025-03-29T15:15:58","modified_gmt":"2025-03-29T09:45:58","slug":"election-symbol","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/election-symbol\/","title":{"rendered":"Election Symbol"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>As per the\u00a0Election Symbols (Reservation and Allotment) Order, 1968,\u00a0the Election Commission allots symbols for anyone contesting in polls.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>A person contesting on behalf of a recognised political party\u00a0will inherit the party&#8217;s symbol.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>An independent candidate or someone contesting on behalf of an unrecognised political party\u00a0has to approach the Commission and get a symbol allotted from the list of &#8216;free&#8217; symbols available.\u00a0\n<ul>\n<li>A candidate will have to provide three symbols from the free list at the time of submission of nomination papers, one of which will be allocated to him\/her.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Any choice other than from the EC&#8217;s list will be summarily rejected.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>In the case of a recognised political party,\u00a0the Commission allows it to &#8216;reserve&#8217; a symbol.\u00a0\n<ul>\n<li>For example, if a political party recognised in a particular State wishes to contest in elections in another State, it can &#8216;reserve&#8217; the symbol being used by it.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The Commission will oblige, provided the symbol is not being used by anyone else.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Two or more recognised political parties can have the same symbol provided they are not contenders in the same State or Union Territory.\u00a0\n<ul>\n<li>Both Federal Party of Manipur and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) use &#8216;Rising Sun&#8217; as their symbol.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>But if one of the parties wish to open their account in the other State, it will have to contest on a different symbol.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Losing the symbol?\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The ECI may also derecognise a political party if it has not polled at least 6 % of votes or won two seats in the State elections. In case of a national party, it should have polled minimum 6 % votes and 2 MLAs in at least four States.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Until 1997, unrecognised parties would lose their symbols.
