{"id":98018,"date":"2026-04-13T13:14:50","date_gmt":"2026-04-13T07:44:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=98018"},"modified":"2026-04-13T16:19:40","modified_gmt":"2026-04-13T10:49:40","slug":"sagarmala-programme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/sagarmala-programme\/","title":{"rendered":"Sagarmala Programme"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Sagarmala Programme Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Sagarmala Programme is implementing 845 projects worth \u20b96.06 lakh crore, with 315 projects worth \u20b91.57 lakh crore completed.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Sagarmala Programme<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was launched in <\/span><b>March, 2015<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to <\/span><b>promote port-led development.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It aims to improve <\/span><b>logistics efficiency<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, reduce transportation costs, and support trade by increasing the use of coastal shipping and inland waterways alongside existing road and rail networks.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The overall projects under the <\/span><b>Sagarmala Programme are divided into 5 pillars and 24<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> categories.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Components of Sagarmala Programme<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Port Modernization and New Port Development: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It focuses on upgrading existing ports and developing new ones to expand capacity and improve operational efficiency.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Port Connectivity Enhancement:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It aims to strengthen connectivity between ports and the hinterland to facilitate faster and more cost-efficient cargo movement.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Port-Led Industrialization:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It promotes the development of industrial clusters in port-proximate areas to support manufacturing and economic activity.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Coastal Community Development: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It focuses on improving livelihoods and promoting sustainable development in coastal regions.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Coastal Shipping and Inland Waterways Transport:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It encourages greater use of coastal shipping and inland waterways for cargo movement.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Institutional Backbone of Sagarmala\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is supported by a <\/span><b>multi-tier framework designed<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to enable coordinated planning, efficient implementation, and continuous monitoring across the Centre and States.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>National Sagarmala Apex Committee (NSAC): <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Constituted in May 2015, NSAC is the apex body <\/span><b>providing overall policy guidance<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and oversight for the programme.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Maritime States Development Council (MSDC):<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It is convened periodically to facilitate centre\u2013state coordination.
