It is a flagship infrastructure project with both economic and environmental significance.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The corridor is approximately <\/span><b>210-213 km long <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and has been constructed at a <\/span><b>cost of around \u20b911,868 crore<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and executed by the <\/span><b>National Highways Authority of India.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It <\/span><b>reduces the distance between Delhi and Dehradun from about 235 km to nearly 210 km<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><b>travel time from 6-6.5 hours to around 2-2.5 hours.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The expressway passes through <\/span><b>Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, connecting key districts such as <\/span><b>Baghpat, Shamli, Muzaffarnagar, and Saharanpur.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The corridor is designed as a <\/span><b>high-speed expressway with a minimum speed of 100 km\/h<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, ensuring faster and safer travel.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It includes a <\/span><b>spur connection to Haridwar, which links the corridor with the Char Dham highway network <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and promotes religious tourism.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor Key Features<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor has been <\/span><b>divided into multiple sections <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">based on geographical conditions, traffic requirements, and construction feasibility to ensure efficient design and execution.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>first section<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> focuses on decongesting Northeast Delhi and includes elevated stretches in both Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, ensuring smooth traffic flow in urban areas.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>second section <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">enhances connectivity in western Uttar Pradesh by passing through major agricultural districts, thereby supporting economic activities and market access.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>third section,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from Saharanpur Bypass to Ganeshpur, is a four-lane stretch that provides a transition from plains to hilly terrain.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>fourth section<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> passes through ecologically sensitive forest areas, including the <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/rajaji-tiger-reserve\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Rajaji National Park<\/strong><\/a>, and incorporates multiple environmental safeguards.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A major highlight of the project is the <\/span><b>20 km eco-sensitive stretch featuring a 10.97 km-long animal underpass and an elevated wildlife corridor, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">which facilitates safe movement of animals, including elephants.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The project includes the <\/span><b>340 metre Daat Kali tunnel<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which improves connectivity and ensures safer travel through the hilly region.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wildlife protection measures such as <\/span><b>sound barriers and light barriers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have been installed in collaboration with the <\/span><b>Wildlife Institute of India<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to minimize ecological disturbance.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The corridor is <\/span><b>expected to reduce carbon emissions and improve fuel efficiency <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">due to smoother traffic flow and reduced congestion.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor Concerns \/ Challenges<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor has faced certain <\/span><b>environmental and administrative challenges<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> during its development phase.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The project required <\/span><b>diversion of forest land<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and led to the <\/span><b>felling of thousands of trees<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, although compensatory afforestation has been undertaken.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight:
