{"id":98910,"date":"2026-04-18T12:07:21","date_gmt":"2026-04-18T06:37:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=98910"},"modified":"2026-04-18T12:07:21","modified_gmt":"2026-04-18T06:37:21","slug":"borrowers-platform","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/borrowers-platform\/","title":{"rendered":"Borrowers\u2019 Platform"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Borrowers\u2019 Platform Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, developing countries have launched the first-ever Borrowers\u2019 Platform at the International Monetary Fund (IMF)-World Bank Spring Meetings 2026.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Borrowers\u2019 Platform<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a dedicated space <\/span><b>enabling developing countries<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that are borrowers to come together, share knowledge, exchange experiences and speak collectively on debt issues.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It <\/span><b>brings together finance ministers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and central bank governors from developing countries to strengthen debt management capacity, enhance coordination and <\/span><b>amplify their collective voice in global debt discussions.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It will be governed by the ministers<\/span><b> of finance of participating countries.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> They will be supported by technical officials responsible for debt.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is <\/span><b>not a forum<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for collective <\/span><b>debt-restructuring<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> negotiations.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Members:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It has <\/span><b>30 members<\/b> <b>including India. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Its working group is chaired<\/span><b> by Egypt.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Secretariat:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It is supported by the <\/span><b>United Nations Conference on Trade and Development<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as its secretariat.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Significance:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> As developing countries\u2019 external debt <\/span><b>burden reached $11.7 trillion in 2024. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So it will help in addressing the debt burden.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.downtoearth.org.in\/climate-change\/developing-countries-launch-first-ever-borrowers-platform-in-push-to-rebalance-global-finance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">DTE<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Borrowers\u2019 Platform is a dedicated space enabling developing countries that are borrowers to come together, share knowledge, exchange experiences and speak collectively on debt issues.
