{"id":99783,"date":"2026-04-23T12:05:19","date_gmt":"2026-04-23T06:35:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=99783"},"modified":"2026-04-23T13:06:36","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T07:36:36","slug":"online-gaming-authority-of-india-ogai","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/online-gaming-authority-of-india-ogai\/","title":{"rendered":"Online Gaming Authority of India (OGAI)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Online Gaming Authority of India (OGAI) Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The government recently constituted the Online Gaming Authority of India, comprising six members.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Online Gaming Authority of India (OGAI)<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a<\/span><b> regulatory body established under<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the <\/span><b>Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act 2025.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The authority will be a <\/span><b>digital office under<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the <\/span><b>Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Government of India.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It will be operational starting May 1.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It will act as the <\/span><b>central regulator for online games<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, including esports, <\/span><b>bringing them under a formal registration and classification system.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>function <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the authority will include <\/span><b>categorising and registering online games<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>deciding whether a game qualifies as <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a <\/span><b>money game<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><b>addressing public grievances.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is established to <\/span><b>issue guidelines, codes of practice, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><b>directions to ensure compliance.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It will also <\/span><b>coordinate with financial institutions and law enforcement agencies<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to ensure effective enforcement.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Membership:<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The authority will comprise <\/span><b>6 members<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in which the <\/span><b>Additional Secretary of the MeitY<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will be <\/span><b>Chairperson <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Other five members<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will include <\/span><b>Joint Secretaries from<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the <\/span><b>Ministry of Home Affairs, Information and Broadcasting, Youth Affairs and Sports<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>Department of Financial Services<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><b>Department of Legal Affairs.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsonair.gov.in\/govt-sets-up-online-gaming-authority-to-regulate-gaming-sector\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">NOA<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Online Gaming Authority of India (OGAI) is a regulatory body established under the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act 2025.
