On 7th June, World Food Safety Day 2025 is being observed worldwide. An initiative of the World Health Organization and Food and Agriculture Organization, it promotes awareness and nudges action towards ensuring safety of food across the food supply chain.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n

World Food Safety Day 2025 shall be observed on 7th June across the world. The international observance highlights the need for such awareness creating initiatives which draw attention towards safe procurement, handling and delivery of food items to the end consumers.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

The sole aim of World Food Safety Day 2025 is to draw attention of individuals, families, food technology businesses and governments towards the importance of food safety and prevention of illness caused by soiled, damaged and contaminated food. The initiative is celebrated to<\/span><\/p>\r\n

  • Share of best practices of food procurement, storage and delivery from across the world.<\/span><\/li>\r\n\t
  • Nudge the food technology companies, packaging companies, fast food chains, governments and individuals to take extra caution in regard to food safety<\/span><\/li>\r\n\t
  • Create awareness about the food borne diseases and their prevention as well as cures among families\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n\t
  • Make people aware about various safety standards and compliances they should ensure before buying food.<\/span><\/li>\r\n\t
  • Aware people about benefits of unprocessed foods and ill effects of ultra processed foods<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n

    World Food Safety Day 2025, Background<\/span><\/h2>\r\n

    Following the adoption of UN General Assembly Resolution 73\/250 in December 2018 proposed by Costa RIca and World Health Organization (WHO), it was announced that World Food Safety Day shall be observed annually on 7th June.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n

    The resolution focused upon shared responsibility of all stakeholders- farmers, governments, food handlers etc to ensure food safety. It recognised the increasing burden of foodborne diseases and illness across the globe especially in low income countries of the global south.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

    World Food Safety Day 2025, Theme<\/span><\/h2>\r\n

    The theme for World Food Safety Day 2025 is \u201cFood Safety: Science in Action\u201d. The theme highlights the role science plays in ensuring food safety across the life cycle of food. From farm to fork the food undergoes a number of treatments and procedures all of which need to ensure that the final product is safe to consume by an individual. Right from sowing the seed or animal feed to the final cooked meal on the table, the need for an internationally compliant regulatory framework cannot be undermined.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n

    Science helps develop technology which may help in multiple ways to ensure food safety including the automation of the whole process to minimize human interference and lowering the chances of communicable diseases.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n

    On the occasion of World Food Safety Day 2025, there are various activities planned and executed by various government or non government organisations working in the field of food safety or hunger. These activities majorly include-<\/span><\/p>\r\n

      • Food Accessibility- Broken supply chains and mishandling of food leads to spoilage and wastage of food thus creating shortage and increasing the cost of available food, this leads to inaccessibility of food in many regions of the world.<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n

        • Right from harvesters which leave stubble in farms and fertilisers used to enrich soil quality to the genetically modified and artificially bred meat all are results of scientific studies and technology in action.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n\t
        • Science can help humanity develop various risk assessment methods and surveillance systems to monitor food safety.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n\t
