It functions under the <\/span><b>Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and provides crucial data for economic planning, governance, policy formulation, and evidence-based decision-making.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The NSO covers diverse areas such as national income, employment, industrial production, household consumption, and socio-economic indicators. <\/span><b>Established in 2019<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, it was formed by merging the <\/span><b>National Sample Survey Office (NSSO)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and the <\/span><b>Central Statistics Office (CSO)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. The merger aimed to improve <\/span><b>coordination, efficiency, standardisation, data quality, and statistical capacity<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, thereby strengthening India's official statistical system and enabling more reliable and timely information for policymakers and stakeholders.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">NSO Structure<\/span><\/h2>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The National Statistical Office (NSO) functions through specialised divisions with specific responsibilities to guarantee the methodical gathering, processing, and distribution of official statistics. These divisions work together to produce high-quality, consistent, and trustworthy statistical data for socioeconomic planning and informed policymaking.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Chief Statistician of India (CSI):<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> The CSI is in charge of all statistical operations, guarantees departmental cooperation and leads the NSO.<\/span><\/li>\r\n\t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>The Economic Statistics Division (ESD):<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> It is responsible for economic indicators, the index of organisations.<\/span><\/li>\r\n\t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Data Processing Division (DPD): <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It oversees data entry, validation, processing, and tabulation.<\/span><\/li>\r\n\t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Survey Design and Research Division (SDRD):<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> To enhance data quality and dependability, creates survey frameworks, sampling strategies, and methodology.<\/span><\/li>\r\n\t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In order to standardise data, the NSO makes sure that <\/span><b>central ministries, state governments, and international statistical organisations<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> work together.<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<h2><span domestic product, government and private final consumption expenditures, capital formation, savings, capital stock, <\/span><b>quarterly estimates of <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/gross-domestic-product-gdp\/\" target=\"_blank\">GDP<\/a>,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> state-level estimates of domestic product and fixed capital formation of supra-regional sectors and comparable estimates of State Domestic Product (SDP) at current prices are prepared.<\/span><\/li>\r\n\t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Coordination of statistical activity with the goal of finding data availability gaps<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">or redundant statistical work with regard to <\/span><b>State Statistical Bureaus (SSBs)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and Government of India departments, as well as recommending appropriate corrective actions.<\/span><\/li>\r\n\t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Establishing and upholding statistical norms <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and standards, as well as developing definitions, concepts, and procedures for data estimates.<\/span><\/li>\r\n\t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Distribution of statistical data<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> to government, semi-government, or private data users\/agencies through a variety of regular or ad hoc publications.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\r\n\t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Distribution of data upon request to United Nations topics.<\/span><\/li>\r\n\t<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Conducting <\/span><b>pilot surveys and methodological research <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">to develop improved sampling strategies and estimating processes, especially small area estimates.<\/span><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">NSO Reports and Publications<\/span><\/h2>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The National Statistical Office frequently releases a variety of papers and datasets that are essential for comprehending the social
