The Earth's magnetic field is like a\u00a0<strong>giant bar magnet\u00a0<\/strong>that is slightly tilted from its\u00a0<strong>rotational axis.\u00a0<\/strong>It has\u00a0<strong>north and south poles<\/strong>\u00a0determined by the field line\u2019s entry and exit points.<\/p>\r\n<p>Remarkably, the\u00a0<strong>polarity of this field can be reversed,<\/strong>\u00a0swapping the north and south poles.\u00a0<strong>Magnetic minerals<\/strong>\u00a0in rocks, such as\u00a0<strong>magnetite,<\/strong>\u00a0align with the magnetic field below the\u00a0<strong>Curie temperature<\/strong>, causing the field's\u00a0<strong>direction and intensity<\/strong>\u00a0to be preserved at the time of formation.<\/p>\r\n<h2>How Does Paleomagnetism Work?<\/h2>\r\n<p><strong>Palaeomagnetism<\/strong>\u00a0analyses the\u00a0<strong>remnant magnetization<\/strong>\u00a0of rocks caused by changes in the earth\u2019s magnetism over time. This remnant magnetization refers to the\u00a0<strong>permanent magnetization<\/strong>\u00a0that rocks acquire as they\u00a0<strong>cool and solidify<\/strong>\u00a0from molten material or undergo chemical changes at\u00a0<strong>low temperatures.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<h2>Paleomagnetism Significance<\/h2>\r\n<p>The study of paleomagnetism not only helps us to understand the\u00a0<strong>various geographical phenomena<\/strong>\u00a0that happened in the past but with its study, we can make\u00a0<strong>certain future geographical predictions.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li><strong>Predictions about the Earth's magnetic field change:\u00a0<\/strong>It helps in understanding the\u00a0<strong>past variations in Earth's magnetic field,<\/strong>\u00a0which include countless reversals and flips (like polar wandering).
