It was developed by BrahMos Aerospace and tested for the first time in 2001.<\/p>\r\n<p>BrahMos is named after the\u00a0<strong>rivers Brahmaputra and Moskva (Russia).\u00a0<\/strong>BrahMos is the potent offensive missile weapon system already inducted into the Armed Forces.<\/p>\r\n<h2>Working of BrahMos Missile<\/h2>\r\n<p>BrahMos is a cruise missile, which is an\u00a0<strong>unmanned self-propelled guided vehicle<\/strong>\u00a0that flies for the majority of its flight path using aerodynamic lift and whose primary mission is to deliver ordnance or a special payload to a target.<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li><strong>Launch Platforms:\u00a0<\/strong>Cruise missiles can be launched from a variety of platforms, including\u00a0<strong>ground, air, sea, and submarine.<\/strong><\/li>\r\n\t<li><strong>Propulsion and Flight:Jet engines\u00a0<\/strong>are the primary mode of propulsion for cruise missiles. Most cruise missiles are subsonic and use\u00a0<strong>Turbofan and Turbojet engines.\u00a0<\/strong>While less common,\u00a0<strong>supersonic and hypersonic cruise missiles<\/strong>\u00a0utilize Ramjet and Scramjet engines.\r\n\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li>Cruise missiles can fly to their targets at various altitudes as long as they stay within the atmosphere. Most remain close to the\u00a0<strong>Earth's surface,<\/strong>\u00a0skimming just meters above the ground.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Their<strong>\u00a0low flight path<\/strong>\u00a0makes it much more difficult for most radar and sensor systems to detect the missile unless the<strong>\u00a0radar or sensor system<\/strong>\u00a0is\u00a0<strong>airborne\u00a0<\/strong>and directed toward the ground.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Because\u00a0<strong>flying at high altitude\u00a0<\/strong>saves fuel, it can extend the range of the missile. However, because today's\u00a0<strong>radars\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>sensors\u00a0<\/strong>are typically positioned to detect and track high-altitude threats, the missile becomes more vulnerable to\u00a0<strong>missile defence systems.<\/strong><\/li>\r\n\t<li>Cruise missiles can also combine high and low-altitude flight paths to reap the benefits of both.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n\t<li><strong>Guidance:\u00a0<\/strong>Cruise missiles can use a variety of\u00a0<strong>guidance methods<\/strong>\u00a0to precisely place their\u00a0<strong>ordinance\u00a0<\/strong>on the\u00a0<strong>desired target\u00a0<\/strong>while avoiding missile defense systems.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<h2>Formation of BrahMos Aerospace<\/h2>\r\n<p>Following the\u00a0<strong>Gulf War of the 1990s<\/strong>, it became increasingly clear that the country needed a\u00a0<strong>cruise missile system.<\/strong>\u00a0As a result, in 1998, India and Russia signed an<strong>\u00a0intergovernmental agreement in Moscow.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li>It paved the way for the\u00a0<strong>formation of BrahMos Aerospace<\/strong>, a\u00a0<strong>joint venture<\/strong>\u00a0betweenIndia's Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and Russia's NPO Mashinostroyenia (NPOM).<\/li>\r\n\t<li><strong>Objectives:<\/strong>\u00a0The partnership's goal was to design, develop, manufacture, and market the world's first supersonic cruise missile system-<strong>BRAHMOS<\/strong>.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>According to the agreement, the two countries agreed to develop and manufacture the missile jointly, with\u00a0<strong>India owning 50.5% of the JV and Russia owning the remaining 49.5%.<\/strong><\/li>\r\n\t<li>On\u00a0<strong>June 12, 2001<\/strong>, the<strong>\u00a0first successful launch of BrahMos<\/strong>\u00a0occurred. The missile was launched from a land-based launcher at the Interim Test Range off the coast of Chandipur in Orissa.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<h2>Brahmos Missile Series<\/h2>\r\n<p>BrahMos is a\u00a0<strong>long-range supersonic cruise missile\u00a0<\/strong>system capable of being launched from<strong>\u00a0land, sea, or air.<\/strong>\u00a0BrahMos has been jointly developed by\u00a0<strong>DRDO<\/strong>, India, and\u00a0<strong>NPOM<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Russia<\/strong>. BrahMos weapon systems have been inducted and are operational with the Indian Armed Forces.\u00a0<strong>BrahMos missile's<\/strong>\u00a0trajectory cannot be predicted so easily, which makes it difficult to counter missile defences.<\/p>\r\n<h3>BrahMos Supersonic Cruise Missile<\/h3>\r\n<p>Since its first launch in 2001, it has been upgraded several times, with versions tested on land, air, and sea platforms.<\/p>\r\n<figure>\r\n<table>\r\n<colgroup> \r\n<col \/> \r\n<col \/><\/colgroup>\r\n<tbody>\r\n<tr>\r\n<td class=\"tb-color\" colspan=\"2\"><strong>BrahMos Supersonic Cruise Missile<\/strong><\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n<tr>\r\n<td><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vajiram-prod.s3.ap-south-1.amazonaws.com\/swad_48c7a8218e.webp\" alt=\"swad.webp\" \/><\/td>\r\n<td>\r\n<p><strong>-\u00a0<\/strong>BrahMos is a\u00a0<strong>two-stage missile<\/strong>\u00a0with a solid propellant booster engine that propels it to\u00a0<strong>supersonic speed<\/strong>\u00a0before separating.<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li>During the cruise phase, the liquid ramjet or second stage, propels the missile closer to\u00a0<strong>3 Mach.<\/strong><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>-\u00a0<strong>Special Features<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li>Universal for multiple platforms.<\/li>\r\n\t<li><strong>stealth technology\u00a0<\/strong>and a\u00a0<strong>guidance system with advanced embedded software<\/strong>.<\/li>\r\n\t<li><strong>\u201cFire and Forget\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0principle of operation<\/li>\r\n\t<li>High supersonic speed all through the flight (up to\u00a0<strong>290 km).<\/strong><\/li>\r\n\t<li>Long flight range with varieties of flight trajectories<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Low radar signature.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Shorter flight times lead to lower target dispersion and quicker engagement.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Pinpoint accuracy with high lethal power.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>- It carries a conventional\u00a0<strong>warhead weighing 200 to 300 kg.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p>- The missile has an identical configuration for land, sea, and sub-sea platforms and uses a\u00a0<strong>Transport Launch Canister (TLC)\u00a0<\/strong>for transportation, storage, and launch.<\/p>\r\n<\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n<\/tbody>\r\n<\/table>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n<h3>BrahMos-NG<\/h3>\r\n<p>A rapid revolution in military technology worldwide has paved the way for the development of yet another\u00a0<strong>futuristic weapon - BrahMos-NG (Next Generation).<\/strong>\u00a0BrahMos-NG promises to become one of the most potent weapon systems in the future, carrying forward the excellent lineage of the existing world-class BrahMos.<\/p>\r\n<figure>\r\n<table>\r\n<tbody>\r\n<tr>\r\n<td class=\"tb-color\" colspan=\"2\"><strong>BrahMos-NG<\/strong><\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n<tr>\r\n<td><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vajiram-prod.s3.ap-south-1.amazonaws.com\/brahmos_ng_19979929d6.webp\" alt=\"brahmos-ng.webp\" \/><\/td>\r\n<td>\r\n<p>- BrahMos NG is a\u00a0<strong>multi-platform, multi-target, and lightweight weapon system,<\/strong>\u00a0making it perfect for the battlefield.<\/p>\r\n<p>-\u00a0<strong>Range:\u00a0<\/strong>290 kilometers<\/p>\r\n<p>-<strong>\u00a0Speed:\u00a0<\/strong>up to 3.5 Mach.<\/p>\r\n<p>- It has a\u00a0<strong>smaller radar cross-section (RCS)<\/strong>\u00a0than the previous missile, making it more difficult for air defence systems to detect and engage the target.<\/p>\r\n<p>- It was created to be deployed on ground-based, aerial, surface, and underwater platforms.<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li>Because of its small size, this missile can be launched from\u00a0<strong>submarine torpedo rooms.<\/strong><\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>-\u00a0<strong>Key features of BrahMos-NG would be:<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li>Reduced Dimension and weight for widespread usage<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Advanced next-generation stealth<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Higher versatility in underwater combat applications<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Launch readiness from Torpedo tube and vertical orientation.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n<\/tbody>\r\n<\/table>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n<h3>BrahMos-II<\/h3>\r\n<p>BrahMos-II, also known as BrahMos Mark II, is a<strong>\u00a0hypersonic cruise<\/strong>\u00a0missile (HCM). It will be used as a ship-based HCM to increase the offensive capabilities of the\u00a0<strong>Indian Navy<\/strong>\u00a0in the Indian Ocean region. This will help India counter the growing belligerence of\u00a0<strong>China\u00a0<\/strong>in the\u00a0<strong>Indo-Pacific region.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<figure>\r\n<table>\r\n<tbody>\r\n<tr>\r\n<td class=\"tb-color\" colspan=\"2\"><strong>BrahMos-II<\/strong><\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n<tr>\r\n<td><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vajiram-prod.s3.ap-south-1.amazonaws.com\/brahmos_II_a1c07a3ba6.webp\" alt=\"brahmos-II.webp\" \/><\/td>\r\n<td>\r\n<p>- The Hypersonic BrahMos-II will be inspired by\u00a0<strong>Russia's 3M22 Tsirkon anti-ship hypersonic cruise missile,\u00a0<\/strong>specifically the\u00a0<strong>scramjet engine technology<\/strong>\u00a0used in it.<\/p>\r\n<p>- Expected range:\u00a0<strong>over 300 miles<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p>-\u00a0<strong>Speeds of up to Mach 7.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p>- It is intended to be launched from a variety of platforms, including land, air, and sea.<\/p>\r\n<\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n<\/tbody>\r\n<\/table>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n<h2>BrahMos Missile Versions<\/h2>\r\n<p>A\u00a0<strong>triad of BrahMos,<\/strong>\u00a0including\u00a0<strong>land-based formations along borders<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>BrahMos-equipped Sukhoi-30s\u00a0<\/strong>at bases (Air Force) in the northern theatre and southern peninsula, and<strong>\u00a0BrahMos-capable ships and submarines deployed in the sea.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li>As\u00a0<strong>multi-dimensional warfare<\/strong>\u00a0requirements evolve, the BrahMos is undergoing a number of upgrades, and work is underway to develop versions with greater range, manoeuvrability, and accuracy.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Versions deployed in all three armed forces are still being tested on a regular basis, as are versions in development.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<figure>\r\n<table>\r\n<tbody>\r\n<tr>\r\n<td class=\"tb-color\">\r\n<p><strong>Land Based<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vajiram-prod.s3.ap-south-1.amazonaws.com\/land_based_brahmos_ff402ad095.webp\" alt=\"land-based-brahmos..webp\" \/><\/p>\r\n<\/td>\r\n<td class=\"tb-color\">\r\n<p>- The land-based BrahMos complex has\u00a0<strong>four to six mobile autonomous launchers,\u00a0<\/strong>each with three missiles that can be fired almost simultaneously.<\/p>\r\n<p>- The upgraded\u00a0<strong>land attack version<\/strong>, which can cruise at\u00a0<strong>2.8 Mach,<\/strong>\u00a0can hit targets at a range of\u00a0<strong>up to 400 km<\/strong>\u00a0with pinpoint accuracy.<\/p>\r\n<\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n<tr>\r\n<td>\r\n<p><strong>Ship Based<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vajiram-prod.s3.ap-south-1.amazonaws.com\/ship_based_brahmos_1e7c3fcdac.webp\" alt=\"ship-based-brahmos.webp\" \/><\/p>\r\n<\/td>\r\n<td>\r\n<p>- The ship-based BrahMos complex has the capability to hit sea-based targets\u00a0<strong>beyond theradar horizon.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p>- The Naval version has been successful in\u00a0<strong>sea-to-sea<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>sea-to-land<\/strong>\u00a0modes and can target a group of frigates.<\/p>\r\n<\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n<tr>\r\n<td>\r\n<p><strong>Air-Launched<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vajiram-prod.s3.ap-south-1.amazonaws.com\/air_launched_brahmos_c5fe829dd3.webp\" alt=\"Air Launched Brahmos\" \/><\/p>\r\n<\/td>\r\n<td>\r\n<p>- BrahMos was successfully flight-tested from a\u00a0<strong>Sukhoi-30MKI<\/strong>\u00a0against a sea-based target.<\/p>\r\n<p>- BrahMos-equipped Sukhoi-30MKI, which has a\u00a0<strong>range of 3000 km\u00a0<\/strong>at a stretch\u00a0<strong>without mid-air refuelling.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p><strong>-\u00a0<\/strong>Future plans include integrating this missile with the\u00a0<strong>LCA Tejas.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n<tr>\r\n<td>\r\n<p><strong>Submarine-launched<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vajiram-prod.s3.ap-south-1.amazonaws.com\/submarine_launched_brahmos_06b9978b4a.webp\" alt=\"submarine-launched-brahmos.webp\" \/><\/p>\r\n<\/td>\r\n<td>\r\n<p><strong>-\u00a0<\/strong>This version can be launched from approximately<strong>\u00a050 meters below<\/strong>\u00a0the\u00a0<strong>water's surface.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p>- The\u00a0<strong>canister-stored missile<\/strong>\u00a0is launched vertically from the\u00a0<strong>submarine's pressure hull<\/strong>\u00a0and uses different settings for underwater and out-of-water flights.<\/p>\r\n<\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n<\/tbody>\r\n<\/table>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n<h2>BrahMos Missile Significance<\/h2>\r\n<p>The missile is highly versatile and its unmatched speed, precision, and power make it the ultimate modern weapon. Developers say that the missile has a strike accuracy rate of 99.99 per cent.
