CRPF Raising Day is observed every year on 27 July to mark the establishment of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). It is one of India’s largest paramilitary forces, known for maintaining internal security, controlling riots, and supporting the police in difficult situations. The day honors the courage, dedication, and sacrifices of CRPF personnel who serve the nation with commitment.

• CRPF Raising Day 2026 marks 88 years of the proud journey of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), which was established on 27 July 1939. Guided by its core motto of “Service and Loyalty”, the force has grown into a key pillar of India’s internal security system.
• Over time, CRPF has developed into a strong and well-organized force, playing a crucial role in protecting the unity, integrity, and sovereignty of the nation. Its presence across different regions highlights its importance in maintaining stability in the country.
• The force operates through a wide network of operational and administrative units, along with specialized wings like the Rapid Action Force (RAF) and CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action), which are trained to handle riots, insurgency, and extremist threats effectively.
• The rich legacy of CRPF is defined by the bravery, dedication, and sacrifice of its personnel. A total of 2,270 brave members have laid down their lives in service to the nation, reflecting their selfless commitment and sense of duty.
• Their sacrifices continue to inspire future generations and represent the true spirit of service to the nation, which remains at the heart of the CRPF’s functioning.
• To celebrate this important occasion, various activities like competitions, quizzes, and a Citizen’s Pledge are organized to encourage public participation and awareness about the force’s contributions.

About Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF)

• Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is one of India’s premier Central Armed Police Forces, mainly responsible for maintaining internal security across the country. It works under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and supports the government in ensuring law and order and public safety in challenging situations.
• The force has a long history, as it was originally formed in 1939 as the Crown Representative Police during British rule. After Independence, it was reorganized and officially renamed as the CRPF through the CRPF Act on 28 December 1949, making it one of the oldest security forces in India.
• The creation of this force was linked to the need to control political unrest and agitations in princely states during the pre-independence period. It was also used to maintain stability and order in regions where governance was weak or challenged.
• The main mission of the CRPF is to help the government maintain rule of law, ensure internal security, and protect the unity and integrity of the nation. It also works towards promoting social harmony by upholding the Constitution of India.
• CRPF has played an important historical role in integrating princely states into the Indian Union after Independence. It assisted the government in handling resistance in places like Junagarh and Kathiawar, helping to strengthen national integration.
• The force performs a wide range of duties such as crowd control and riot control, especially during protests or tense situations. It is also actively involved in counter-insurgency and anti-militancy operations, including tackling Left Wing Extremism (Naxalism) in affected regions.
• It plays a key role in ensuring free and fair elections, particularly in disturbed or sensitive areas, by providing large-scale security arrangements and coordination.
• CRPF is also responsible for the protection of VIPs and critical installations like important government buildings and infrastructure. In addition, it contributes to environmental protection, including safeguarding flora and fauna in certain areas.
• During times of war or national emergency, the force assists the armed forces in defending the country and handling security challenges. It also participates in United Nations Peacekeeping Missions, representing India globally.
• Apart from security duties, CRPF plays a humanitarian role by conducting rescue and relief operations during natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes, and cyclones, helping affected people quickly and efficiently.
• The CRPF is part of a larger group of Central Armed Police Forces, which include Assam Rifles (AR), Border Security Force (BSF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), National Security Guard (NSG), and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), each with its own specialized role in India’s security system.
