• The Srisailam Project is a major multi-purpose river valley project built across the Krishna River, located on the border of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh near Srisailam town.
• It is strategically situated between Kurnool district (Andhra Pradesh) and Nagarkurnool/Mahabubnagar region (Telangana), making it important for both states.
• Construction of the Srisailam Dam began in 1960, the main structure was completed on July 26, 1980, and it was officially inaugurated in 1981. 
• The project lies in a deep gorge of the Nallamala Hills, at an elevation of around 300 meters above sea level, which provides a naturally suitable site for dam construction.
• This natural valley location helps in the formation of a large reservoir, enabling efficient water storage and hydropower generation.
• The Srisailam Project is recognized as a significant engineering landmark as well as a vital water resource project in southern India.

  • Left Bank Power House (Telangana side)
  • Right Bank Power House (Andhra Pradesh side)
• The project has an estimated live storage capacity of 178.74 TMC ft.
