World Circular Economy Forum (WCEF) 2026 is being held in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, from 15 to 18 September 2026. The tenth edition of the forum is being organised jointly by the Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra and the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), with support from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) and other Indian and international partners.

The 2026 edition focuses on “Circular economy: Transition for people and prosperity” and aims to accelerate the adoption of circular solutions in a resource-constrained world.

What is World Circular Economy Forum?

World Circular Economy Forum (WCEF) is a global platform that brings together business leaders, policymakers, experts, innovators and other stakeholders to promote the transition towards a circular economy.

It was initiated by Finland and the Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra in 2017. The forum provides a platform for sharing knowledge, developing partnerships and showcasing practical circular economy solutions.

World Circular Economy Forum (WCEF) was launched in 2017 as a global initiative of Finland and the Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra. Since then, it has brought together policymakers, businesses, experts and innovators to share circular economy solutions and promote the global transition towards a circular economy.

• 2017: First WCEF was held in Helsinki, Finland.
• 2018: Hosted in Yokohama, Japan, marking its expansion into Asia.

• 2020: The forum was organised digitally due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

What is a Circular Economy?

A circular economy is an economic model that aims to keep products, materials and resources in use for as long as possible while minimising waste and pollution. It moves away from the traditional “take–make–dispose” model by promoting efficient resource use and the reuse, repair and recycling of materials.

• Reduce: Minimise the consumption of raw materials, energy and water during production and consumption.
• Reuse: Use products and components multiple times instead of discarding them after one use.
• Repair: Extend the useful life of products through maintenance and repair.
• Refurbish: Restore used products or components to a functional condition.
• Remanufacture: Rebuild used products or components to meet required performance standards.
