In India, the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) has aligned the 2026 celebrations with the same global theme and is promoting the overarching mission “Swastha Bharat: Combating Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)”.

What is World Pharmacists Day?

World Pharmacists Day is observed every year on September 25 to recognise the contribution of pharmacists and the wider pharmacy profession to healthcare.

Pharmacists work across community pharmacies, hospitals, pharmaceutical industries, research institutions, regulatory organisations and other healthcare settings. Their responsibilities extend beyond dispensing medicines and include supporting appropriate medicine use, patient counselling, medication safety, health promotion and disease prevention.

World Pharmacy Week 2026 is observed from September 19 to September 25, 2026, highlighting the contribution of pharmacists and the wider pharmacy workforce to healthcare. It provides an opportunity to raise awareness about safe medicine use, patient care, public health and antimicrobial resistance. The week encourages healthcare institutions, educational organisations and pharmacy professionals to organise awareness programmes, educational activities and community initiatives.

In India, the Pharmacy Council of India is coordinating activities related to World Pharmacists Day and National Pharmacy Week 2026.

The PCI announced the September 25 celebration under the global theme “Empowering Pharmacists for Healthier Futures” and the overarching mission “Swastha Bharat: Combating Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)”.
