The Ministry of Ayush is using AI to improve access to Ayurvedic knowledge, support research, strengthen healthcare services, improve education and make traditional medicine more accessible through digital platforms.

Ministry of Ayush is advancing Artificial Intelligence as the next stage of digital transformation in Ayurveda and the wider Ayush sector. Several AI-based applications and collaborations have been developed to support healthcare, research, education and citizen services.

The development builds on Ayush Grid, the digital backbone of the Ayush sector. The Ministry is also working with IndiaAI and the Digital India Bhashini Division (DIBD), MeitY, to explore AI, language technologies, digital health and advanced computing for the Ayush ecosystem.

How is AI Being Used in Ayurveda and Traditional Medicine?

AI is being integrated into Ayurveda and traditional medicine to improve research, healthcare, education, medicinal plant management and digital services. AI-powered tools are helping make traditional knowledge more accessible, searchable and useful for researchers, practitioners, students and citizens.

1. AI for Ayurvedic Research

AI is helping researchers search and analyse large volumes of Ayurveda-related research and traditional medical literature more efficiently.

• ARP Research Assistant: A Generative AI-based assistant developed for the Ayush Research Portal.

The use of AI in traditional medicine is also receiving international attention.

On 11 July 2025, the WHO, International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) jointly released a technical brief titled “Mapping the Application of Artificial Intelligence in Traditional Medicine.” The document examined the application of AI in traditional medicine and highlighted the need for responsible, evidence-informed and culturally appropriate approaches.

AI and Indian Languages

Language can be a major barrier to accessing scientific and medical information.

The Ministry of Ayush has collaborated with the Digital India Bhashini Division (DIBD), MeitY, to explore language technologies for the Ayush ecosystem.

Ayush Grid portals serving practitioners, students and citizens are available in 22 scheduled Indian languages through the Bhashini collaboration. This can help make Ayurvedic and Ayush-related digital information more accessible to people across different linguistic backgrounds.

Another important development came in March 2026, when CCRAS signed an MoU with Anuvadini AI to facilitate translation of evidence-based Ayurveda research outputs and educational materials into 13 regional languages, including Hindi.

Ayurgenomics and AI in Ayurveda

Another important area where technology and Ayurveda intersect is Ayurgenomics. Ayurgenomics combines concepts from Ayurveda, particularly Prakriti, with modern genomic science. Earlier government material has highlighted the use of AI and machine learning in exploring relationships between Ayurvedic constitutional types and disease-related biological markers.
