Sirumalai Hills are a scenic and forested hill range located in Dindigul district of Tamil Nadu. Rising to around 1,600 metres above sea level, the hills are known for their lush greenery, pleasant climate, rich biodiversity and panoramic views. Sirumalai is also associated with hill agriculture, religious sites and eco-tourism, making it an important natural and cultural landscape of Tamil Nadu.

• Sirumalai Hills are located in Dindigul district of Tamil Nadu and form a prominent hill region known for its dense forests, pleasant climate and scenic landscapes. The hills are situated about 25 km from Dindigul.
• The hill region covers around 60,000 acres and rises to an elevation of approximately 1,600 metres above sea level.
• Sirumalai is well connected to nearby towns and cities, with Madurai and Dindigul being important access points. The official Dindigul district website describes Sirumalai as a dense forest region with a moderate climate throughout the year.
• The route to the hills is known for its 18 hairpin bends, offering scenic views of the surrounding plains and making the journey itself an attraction.
• The hills include several places of religious and tourist interest, including Vellimalai Murugan Temple, Annai Velankanni Church and Sirumalai Lake.

• Sirumalai Hills have a mountainous and forested landscape, with steep slopes, valleys and viewpoints overlooking the surrounding areas.
• The region has an elevation of about 1,600 metres, resulting in a cooler and more moderate climate compared with the plains of Dindigul.
• The hills receive significant rainfall, particularly during the northeast monsoon. The Khandige Estate area, for example, receives around 120-132 cm of rainfall, according to the Dindigul district administration.
• Sirumalai Lake, an artificial lake created in 2010, is surrounded by greenery and forms part of the area’s tourism attractions. The lake also lies within the catchment area of the Saathiyar Dam.
• The hills have several scenic viewpoints, while the winding ghat road provides views of the valleys and plains below.
• Sirumalai also has agricultural and horticultural importance. The State Horticulture Farm at Sirumalai, established in 1980 over about 200 hectares, produces planting material for crops and plants including pepper, coffee, avocado, jasmine, papaya and moringa.
