About Fit India Movement

The Fit India Movement was launched on 29 August 2019 by the Prime Minister of India under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports to make fitness an integral part of everyday life. It seeks to encourage citizens to adopt a more physically active lifestyle and promote fitness activities across schools, colleges, panchayats and villages.

Fit India Movement Objectives 

The Fit India movement seeks to bring about behavioural changes and make physical activity a regular part of people’s lives.

  • Promote Fitness: Make fitness easy, fun and free for citizens.
  • Create Awareness: Spread awareness about fitness and physical activities through focused campaigns.
  • Promote Indigenous Sports: Encourage participation in indigenous sports.
  • Expand Reach: Take fitness activities to schools, colleges, universities, panchayats and villages.
  • Encourage Citizen Participation: Provide platforms for citizens to share fitness information, experiences and personal fitness stories.
