The F-35 Fighter Jets are modern, advanced military aircraft developed by the United States. It is known for its stealth technology, which helps it avoid detection by enemy radar, and its ability to perform multiple roles such as air combat, ground attack, and surveillance. Designed with cutting-edge systems and high-speed capabilities, the F-35 is used by several countries to strengthen their air forces and maintain security.
Why in News: F-35 Fighter Jets
Recently, tensions between the United States and Iran escalated after both sides carried out military strikes, breaking a temporary pause in hostilities. In this context, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed that it destroyed three US F-35 stealth fighter jets at the Al-Azraq Air Base in Jordan during its retaliatory missile strikes. However, the United States rejected these claims.

Variants of the F-35
- F-35A (CTOL – Conventional Takeoff and Landing):This version is designed for normal runways and is mainly used by air forces. It offers high maneuverability and is equipped with an internal cannon, making it suitable for traditional combat operations.
- F-35B (STOVL – Short Takeoff and Vertical Landing):This variant can take off from short runways and land vertically like a helicopter, which makes it highly useful for operations from small bases or ships. It uses advanced lift-fan technology for this capability.
- F-35C (Carrier-Based):This version is specially designed for aircraft carrier operations. It has larger wings and stronger landing gear, allowing it to operate efficiently from naval ships.
F-35 Fighter Jets Key Features
- Stealth Technology:The F-35 is built using special designs and materials that reduce its visibility on radar, making it difficult for enemy systems to detect and track it. This gives it a major advantage in combat situations.
- Advanced Avionics and Sensor Fusion:The aircraft is equipped with modern communication, radar, and surveillance systems. All this information is combined and displayed to the pilot in a simplified way, helping in better and faster decision-making during missions.
- Powerful Weapon Systems:The F-35 can carry and launch a wide range of weapons, including advanced missiles and precision-guided bombs. It can perform both air-to-air and air-to-ground attacks effectively.
- Network-Centric Warfare Capability:One of its most important features is connectivity. The F-35 can share real-time data with other aircraft, ground forces, and command centers, improving coordination and overall combat efficiency.
- Supersonic and Multirole Capability:It is a single-seat, single-engine, supersonic jet capable of performing multiple missions in a single flight, which increases operational flexibility.
F-35 Fighter Jets Global Use and Importance
- The F-35 is used by several countries including the United States, United Kingdom, Israel, Japan, South Korea, and Australia, among others.
- It plays a major role in intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance (ISR), and precision strike missions across the world.
