After assuming charge as the 31st Chief of the Army Staff, General Dhiraj Seth unveiled the “VIJAY” roadmap for the transformation of the Indian Army.
About the VIJAY Roadmap
The VIJAY Roadmap is a comprehensive modernisation strategy for the Indian Army under the leadership of General Dhiraj Seth. It focuses on improving operational readiness, technological capability, jointness among forces, and soldier welfare while strengthening self-reliance in defence production.
Core Pillars of the VIJAY Roadmap
VIJAY Roadmap outlines a structured vision to modernise the Indian Army into a digitised, technology-enabled, self-reliant and multi-domain capable force aligned with the Ministry of Defence’s Decade of Transformation (2023-2032).
- Vigilance (V): Focuses on maintaining high operational readiness and continuous alertness along India’s borders to respond effectively to evolving security challenges.
- Innovation and Transformation (I): Emphasises adoption of modern military doctrines, advanced technologies, and rapid capability development to adapt to the changing nature of warfare.
- Jointness and Integration (J): Promotes stronger synergy among the Army, Navy, and Air Force, along with civil–military cooperation under a Whole-of-Nation approach to achieve national security goals and support Viksit Bharat 2047.
- Atmanirbharta (A): Reinforces commitment to indigenisation and defence self-reliance, guided by the principle of “Winning Our Wars with Indigenous Solutions”, reducing dependence on foreign imports.
- Yodha First (Y): Focuses on human capital development, including improved training, technological skill enhancement, and welfare measures for Agniveers, serving soldiers, veterans, and Veer Naris.
Significance of the VIJAY Roadmap
The VIJAY roadmap is significant as it provides a structured direction for transforming the Indian Army into a modern, integrated and future-ready force aligned with national security and development goals.
- Defence Modernisation: Strengthens India’s overall defence modernisation drive by accelerating technological and doctrinal upgrades.
- Multi-Domain Capability: Enhances operational strength across land, air, cyber and space domains to meet future warfare challenges.
- Self-Reliance: Promotes Atmanirbharta in defence manufacturing by encouraging indigenous development and reducing import dependence.
- Tri-Service Coordination: Improves jointness and coordination among the Army, Navy and Air Force for integrated operations.
- Soldier Welfare: Prioritises human resource development by improving training, welfare, and empowerment of soldiers, veterans and families.
- Viksit Bharat Alignment: The roadmap also reflects the national ethos of “JAI leads to VIJAY”, with Jai Hind and Jai Bharat as guiding principles, linking military transformation with the broader vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
