India is going to celebrate the 77th Indian Army Day on 15 January 2025. In 1949, M Cariappa, took over the position of Indian Army from General Sir FRR Bucher who was the first Commander in Chief of Independent India and also headed the Indian Army in the war of 1947. Indian Army Day was being celebrated from 1949 to 2022, every year by organising an event on the Cariappa Parade Ground in the Delhi Cantonment. In 2023, parade was held in Bengaluru by the Southern Command and 2024 the celebrations took place in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.
In 2025, the Indian Army Day Parade is being hosted by Pune for the first time. The day is known to represent courage, nation pride and sacrifice.
Pune, known as the "Oxford of the East" and a cornerstone of India’s military legacy, hosts prestigious institutions like the National Defence Academy (NDA) and the Southern Command Headquarters.
