Shivaram Rajguru Biography

Shivaram Hari Rajguru was born on 24 August 1908 at Khed near Pune (Maharashtra) to Parvati Devi and Harinarayan Rajguru in a Marathi Deshastha Brahmin family. His father died when Rajguru was six years old, after which his elder brother Dinkar took responsibility for the family. He received primary education at Khed and later studied in Pune. He was well versed in Indian scriptures and joined Seva Dal at a young age. He later entered revolutionary politics and became associated with the HSRA. Rajguru was executed by the British government on 23 March 1931 in Lahore, along with Bhagat Singh and Sukhdev Thapar for involvement in the Saunders Assassination.

• Kakori Conspiracy: Rajguru is also associated with the Kakori Conspiracy of 1925, in which revolutionaries robbed a British train to obtain funds for revolutionary activities.
• Shaheed Diwas: The martyrdom of Rajguru, Bhagat Singh and Sukhdev on 23 March is observed as Martyrs’ Day in India.
