India’s medal tally increased from 23 to 26 after strong performances in athletics, shooting and squash.

Sawan Barwal Wins Silver in Men’s Marathon

Sawan Barwal won the silver medal in the men’s marathon, giving India its first Asian Games marathon medal in 44 years.

Barwal finished with a national record time and became only the third Indian athlete to win a marathon medal at the Asian Games. India’s previous marathon medals came in 1951 and 1982.

The medal was particularly significant because India had been waiting since the 1982 Asian Games in New Delhi for another men’s marathon medal.

India Wins Silver in Women’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions

India also won silver in the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions team event. The Indian team consisted of:
