India’s Three New Medals on Day 8
India’s medal tally increased from 23 to 26 after strong performances in athletics, shooting and squash.
Sawan Barwal Wins Silver in Men’s Marathon
Sawan Barwal won the silver medal in the men’s marathon, giving India its first Asian Games marathon medal in 44 years.
Barwal finished with a national record time and became only the third Indian athlete to win a marathon medal at the Asian Games. India’s previous marathon medals came in 1951 and 1982.
The medal was particularly significant because India had been waiting since the 1982 Asian Games in New Delhi for another men’s marathon medal.
India Wins Silver in Women’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions
India also won silver in the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions team event. The Indian team consisted of:
- Tilottama Sen
- Vidarsa Kochalumkal
- Ashi Chouksey
The trio finished second in the team competition, adding another silver medal to India’s tally.
The 50m rifle 3 positions event involves shooting from three positions:
- Kneeling
- Prone
- Standing
The Indian shooters also competed in the individual qualification and final stages. Tilottama Sen and Vidarsa Kochalumkal progressed to the individual final.
Joshna Chinappa and Velavan Senthilkumar Win Squash Bronze
India added its third medal of the day through Joshna Chinappa and Velavan Senthilkumar.
The Indian pair won bronze in mixed doubles squash after losing their semifinal against Hong Kong’s Lee Ka Yi and Tang Ming Hong.
The result gave India another medal in squash and added to Joshna Chinappa’s long list of Asian Games achievements.
India will still have Anahat Singh and Abhay Singh competing in their respective squash semifinals later in the day.
Asian Games 2026 Day 8 Kabaddi Finals
India featured in both men’s and women’s kabaddi finals on Day 8, with the women’s team facing Iran for the gold medal and the men’s team also competing against Iran in the final.

Lakshya Sen began his men’s singles campaign against Singapore’s Loh Kean Yew. The Indian shuttler won the second game after losing the opening game but eventually lost the match 12–21, 21–15, 14–21. As a result, his individual campaign ended in the Round of 32.
