Who is the Current Home Minister of India 2026?

The current Union Home Minister of India is Amit Shah. He has served as the Home Minister since 30 May 2019. He continued in the office after the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) formed the government for a third consecutive term following the 2024 General Elections. Before becoming Home Minister, Amit Shah held important organisational responsibilities in the Bharatiya Janata Party and served as its National President.

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was the first Home Minister of independent India. He also served as the first Deputy Prime Minister.
