India concluded the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow with a commendable performance, securing 39 medals, including 13 gold, 17 silver and 9 bronze medals. The achievement was significant as India achieved a fourth-place finish despite the exclusion of several traditional medal-winning sports such as shooting, wrestling, badminton, hockey and table tennis from the competition programme.

India’s Performance in Commonwealth Games 2026

India finished fourth in the overall medal tally with 39 medals, behind Australia, England and Canada, continuing its consistent presence among the top five nations since 2002.

  • Australia topped the medal table with 171 medals (70 gold), followed by England with 110 medals and Canada with 62 medals
  • India’s fourth-place finish was notable because the 2026 edition had a restricted sports programme, excluding disciplines that have historically contributed significantly to India’s medal tally.
  • Boxing emerged as India’s strongest discipline, with India winning 10 medals, including 7 gold medals. This was the highest gold-medal tally achieved by any country in boxing at a single Commonwealth Games edition.
  • Athletics contributed 16 medals, while weightlifting added 8 medals, strengthening India’s overall medal performance.
  • Asmita Dey created history by winning India’s first-ever Commonwealth Games gold medal in judo, followed by Harsh Singh becoming the first Indian male judoka to win a Commonwealth Games gold medal.
  • Sharmila Dhankar became the first Indian para-athlete to win a Commonwealth Games gold medal in para-athletics, securing gold in women’s shot put F57.
  • Mirabai Chanu won her third consecutive Commonwealth Games gold medal, becoming one of India’s most successful weightlifters at the event.
