Gamini Singla from Anandpur Sahib, Punjab, secured the All India Rank 3 in the UPSC Exam 2021. A B.Tech graduate in Computer Science from Punjab Engineering College (PEC), Chandigarh, she set her sights on civil services soon after completing her degree in 2019. Demonstrating clarity in her goals, she even turned down a job offer from JP Morgan to dedicate herself fully to UPSC preparation.
With determination and focused preparation, she cleared the exam in her second attempt. She often credits her family’s support, especially that of her father, as a key factor in her journey.

Gamini Singla UPSC AIR 3 2021
In the UPSC CSE Exam 2021, the final results were declared on May 30, 2022. For the first time, the top three positions were all secured by women. Shruti Sharma clinched AIR 1, followed by Ankita Agarwal at AIR 2, and Gamini Singla from Chandigarh with AIR 3. A graduate of Punjab Engineering College (PEC), Chandigarh, Gamini achieved this remarkable feat in just her second attempt. Her success added to the historic achievement of women dominating the top ranks.

Gamini Singla Educational Background
Gamini Singla completed her schooling at Mount Carmel School, Punjab, before pursuing a B.Tech in Computer Science at Punjab Engineering College (PEC), Chandigarh. At PEC, she actively participated in student organizations and even served as a class representative, reflecting her leadership qualities early on. Alongside this, she regularly attempted mock tests for the Prelims, which helped her strengthen conceptual clarity and improve time management. Gamini Singla Challenges
Gamini’s journey was not without hurdles. She couldn’t clear the exam in her first attempt, but instead of losing hope, she restructured her preparation strategy for her second try. She committed to a disciplined routine, studying for 9-11 hours a day with a strong focus on self-study.
One of the toughest parts of her preparation was managing time and resources wisely while keeping distractions especially online at bay. The intense study schedule also came with mental and physical stress, but the support of her family provided her with the strength to stay consistent and motivated.
