The UPSC Mains Registration Window 2026 has been opened for candidates who qualified the Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2026. Candidates whose roll numbers appear in the UPSC Prelims Result must complete the Detailed Application Form-I (DAF-I) to become eligible for the UPSC Mains Examination 2026.

According to the latest UPSC Calendar 2026, the UPSC Mains Examination 2026 will begin from 21 August 2026, giving candidates nearly two months to prepare after completing the registration process.

Steps to Register for UPSC Mains 2026 Process

Candidates who have qualified the UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2026 must complete the DAF-I (Detailed Application Form-I) online to become eligible for the UPSC Mains Examination. Follow the step-by-step process below to successfully complete the registration.

Step 1: Visit the Official UPSC Website

  • Go to the official UPSC online portal: upsconline.nic.in
  • Click on the "DAF-I for Civil Services Examination 2026" link.
  • Ensure you are accessing the correct UPSC website.

Step 2: Login with Your Credentials

  • Enter your Registration ID/Roll Number.
  • Provide your Password and Security Code.
  • Click on the Login button to access the application form.

Step 3: Fill Personal Information

  • Verify your name, date of birth, and gender.
  • Enter correspondence and permanent address details.
  • Provide a valid mobile number and email ID.
  • Check all personal details carefully before proceeding.

Step 4: Enter Educational Qualification Details

  • Fill in graduation and other academic qualification details.
  • Mention the university/institute name.
  • Enter the year of passing and percentage/CGPA.
  • Provide details of any additional qualifications, if applicable.

Step 5: Select Service Preferences

  • Choose your preferred civil services in order of priority.
  • Options include IAS, IPS, IFS, IRS, and other Group 'A' and Group 'B' services.
  • Review the order carefully as service preferences play an important role in final allocation.

Step 6: Fill Category and Reservation Details

  • Select your category (General, OBC, SC, ST, or EWS).
  • Enter details related to reservation claims.
  • Provide PwBD or Ex-Servicemen information, if applicable.
  • Ensure that all details match the supporting certificates.

Step 7: Upload Required Documents

  • Upload a recent passport-size photograph.
  • Upload your signature in the prescribed format.
  • Upload educational certificates and mark sheets.
  • Upload category, EWS, OBC, SC/ST, or PwBD certificates, if applicable.
  • Check that all uploaded files are clear and readable.

Step 8: Fill Additional Information

  • Enter details of employment, if any.
  • Provide information about achievements, awards, sports participation, and extracurricular activities.
  • Fill in hobby and interest details carefully, as these may be discussed during the Interview stage.

Step 9: Review the Complete Application Form

  • Check every section thoroughly.
  • Verify spelling, dates, and certificate details.
  • Ensure that all mandatory fields are completed.
  • Correct any mistakes before final submission.

Step 10: Submit the DAF-I Form

  • Click on the Final Submit button.
  • Confirm the declaration and submit the application.
  • Once submitted, no major changes may be allowed.

Step 11: Download and Print the Confirmation Page

  • Download the submitted DAF-I form.
  • Take a printout for future reference.
  • Keep a copy of all uploaded documents for document verification and interview stages.

Note: Candidates must complete the UPSC Mains Registration 2026 between 19 June and 28 June 2026 to be eligible for the Civil Services Main Examination starting from 21 August 2026.

PwBD (Persons with Benchmark Disabilities) Documents

  • No Objection Certificate (NOC) for candidates employed in Government services, if required.
  • Details of current employment and service records.
