  2. Starred questions are those to which a Member desires a written answer.
  3. No supplementary question can be asked on an unstarred question.

Which one of the following conclusions based on the above statements is correct?

  1. 1. All the three statements are correct.
  2. 2. There are two correct statements, that include statement 2.
  3. 3. There is only one correct statement.
  4. 4. There is no correct statement

Answer (Detailed Solution Below)

Option 3: There is only one correct statement.

Detailed Solution

Answer: 3

Explanation:

  • The Starred Question not the unstarred question to which a Member desires an oral answer in the  House. Starred questions are distinguished by a star (*) mark, and because an oral answer is expected,  supplementary questions can also be asked by other Members arising out of the answer given. So, statement 1 is not correct.
  • It is the Unstarred Question not the starred question to which a Member desires a written answer.  Unstarred questions are placed on the Order Paper and their answers are laid on the Table of the House in  written form. No oral answer is given, and consequently no supplementary questions arise. So, statement  2 is not correct.
  • Unstarred questions receive only a written answer that is laid on the Table of the House, there is no  occasion for oral exchange and therefore no supplementary question can be asked on an unstarred  question. So, statement 3 is correct.

Therefore, option (3) is the correct answer.
