International Day of Peace 2026 Theme

The official theme for International Day of Peace 2026 is “Invest in Peace – For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day.”

It also depends on the actions of individuals and communities in their everyday lives. The United Nations describes these individuals as “everyday architects of peace” – people who take local action, promote stability and help create the conditions for lasting peace. Why is International Day of Peace Observed on 21 September?

The United Nations General Assembly established the International Day of Peace in 1981. 21 September was chosen as the date for the observance because it coincides with the opening day of the regular session of the United Nations General Assembly, providing an opportunity for the UN to focus global attention on peace and encourage 24 hours of non-violence and ceasefire.
