Sprite Tejas Express, First Private Branded Train, Significance

The Sprite Tejas Express is a commercially branded Tejas Express service operating between Lucknow and New Delhi. Tejas Express is an air conditioned superfast train category using Indian Railways infrastructure. The Lucknow-Delhi service is managed by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC). It represents the growing use of train branding and non fare revenue opportunities within India’s railway infrastructure.

Why is Sprite Tejas Express in News?

The Lucknow-Delhi-Lucknow Tejas Express will be known as the Sprite Tejas Express from August 19, 2026 to November 11, 2026. IRCTC awarded six month train branding rights to M/s Sprite through a Letter of Acceptance. The train will carry the brand at originating and en-route stations. This is India’s first train to be named after a commercial brand. The arrangement is commercial branding and does not mean railway privatisation.
