The UPSC CSE Exam 2025 is divided into two types of papers - qualifying papers and papers counted for merit. Out of the 9 total papers, 2 are qualifying in nature (the language paper and English paper), while the remaining 7 are considered for merit ranking. Among these, candidates must appear for 5 compulsory papers and 2 optional papers.
For candidates opting for Tamil, the subject comes under two categories:
- Tamil Compulsory Language Paper - A qualifying paper where candidates need to secure the minimum passing marks.
- Tamil Literature Optional Paper - Part of the optional subjects list, consisting of Paper I and Paper II, each carrying 250 marks.
In this article, you will find UPSC Tamil Optional Previous Year Paper for optional exam. Practicing these papers is strongly recommended to gain familiarity with the exam pattern and to build a strong foundation in Tamil language and literature.
