  2. 2. 2 only
  3. 3. 2 and 3 only
  4. 4. 1, 2 and 3

Answer (Detailed Solution Below)

Option 2: 2 only

Detailed Solution

Explanation:

  • The Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems (GIAHS) programme aims to identify and safeguard traditional agricultural systems instead of modern technology. So, statement 1 is not  correct.

  • This traditional agricultural practice tries to sustain and conserve our biodiversity and genetic resources for food and agriculture, rural livelihoods, knowledge systems, cultures and remarkable landscapes. So, statement 2 is correct.

  • In India, a geographical indication (GI) is a sign used on products that have a specific geographical origin and possess qualities or a reputation that are due to that origin. At global level, GIAHS has no such GI related provision. So, statement 3 is not  correct.

  • In India, three places have been recognised as GIAHS namely,
    • Traditional Agriculture System, Koraput
    • Saffron Heritage of Kashmir
    • Kuttanad below sea level farming system

Therefore, option (2) is the correct answer.
