Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Option 2: 2 only
Detailed Solution
Explanation:
- In 1703, Daud Khan was appointed as Nawab of Carnatic (Arcot) by the Mughal emperor Aurangazeb. He chose Arcot as his headquarters. Muhammad Saiyid was the Diwan in Daud Khan’s reign and later he was appointed as Nawab of Carnatic (Arcot). The title of Saadatullah Khan was given to him by Emperor Aurangzeb. He was the last Mughal governor appointed as Nawab of Carnatic. After the death of Aurangzeb, the Mughal Empire became weak. Therefore, he became an independent ruler of the Carnatic. So, statement 1 is not correct.
- The Mysore kingdom was founded and ruled for the most part by the Wodeyar Dynasty. Initially, they served as feudatories under the Vijayanagara Empire. In the 17th century, their kingdom expanded steadily during the rule of Narasaraja Wodeyar I and Chikka Devaraja Wodeyar. So, statement 2 is correct.
- The Kingdom of Rohilkhand was nominally under Mughal suzerainty, which became independent in 1721 due to the decline of the Mughal Empire and continued to exist until 1774. Nawab Ali Mohammed Khan a scion of the ancient Barha Dynasty became the first Nawab Rohilkhand. So, statement 3 is not correct.
Therefore, option (2) is the correct answer.
