Can Final Year Students Apply for UPSC?

The Union Public Service Commission permits final year students to apply, granting them an opportunity to pursue a prestigious career in the Indian Civil Services. The final year students must meet the other eligibility criteria, including nationality and minimum age limit, which require them to be at least 21 years old. Students in the final year of graduation can apply for the CSE Prelims exam, but the proof of passing the required qualifying examination should be issued before the closing date for Detailed Application Form-I of the Main Examination.

Are Final Year Students Eligible to Apply for UPSC CSE?

Yes, final year students are eligible to apply for the UPSC Civil Services Examination. UPSC allows candidates who are in their final year of graduation or have appeared in the final year examination of their degree course to take the CSE. This provision is stated in the official notification for the exam.

However, there are certain conditions that aspiring candidates must meet:

  • Age Limit: Candidates must be at least 21 years old to apply for the CSE, and there is an upper age limit that varies depending on the category of the candidate and the number of attempts made.
  • Educational Qualification: Candidates must hold at least a bachelor's degree from a recognised university. Final year students can apply, but they must ensure that they fulfil the educational qualification criteria before the submission of DAF for the Main Examination.
  • Documentation: Candidates in their final year need to provide proof of passing the bachelor's degree examination when filling out the Detailed Application Form (DAF) for the Main Examination.

Can MBBS Graduates without Internships Apply for UPSC?

Applicants who have successfully cleared their final professional M.B.B.S. or an equivalent medical degree examination but have not finished their internship at the time of applying for the Civil Services (Main) Examination will be provisionally allowed to participate in the examination. To do so, they must include a certificate from their University or Institution confirming the completion of the final professional examination along with their application.

In such instances, candidates are required to present their original degree or a certificate from the relevant university or institution during their interview to demonstrate that they have fulfilled all the necessary requirements, including the completion of their internship, for the conferral of their degree.
