India’s mountains, forests and coasts underpin water, energy and livelihoods. Yet, ranking 9th globally in the Climate Risk Index 2026 for extreme-weather impacts (1995–2024), India faces rising development-induced disaster risks amid climate change and expanding infrastructure.

Disaster-Risk Reduction through Risk-Sensitive Development

  1. Resilient Infrastructure Design: Make roads, tunnels and hydropower disaster-resilient through seismic design, slope stabilisation, drainage and bio-engineering; InSAR/UAV monitoring on the Char Dham route supports safer infrastructure development.
