Indian Defence Accounts Service Roles and Responsibilities
The roles and responsibilities of Indian Defence Accounts include:
- Carry out internal auditing, and accounting functions to army, navy and air force officers.
- Providing financial advice and payment for Army, Navy, Defence Research and Development Organisations, ordnance factories, canteen store departments and Border Road organisations and other allied organisations.
- IDAS Officers are eligible to be appointed in various government organisations, ministries and departments.
- IDAS Officers are qualified to be posted overseas as a part of Indian Army’s UN peacekeeping missions.
IDAS Officers Training
- The first phase of 4 months training for IDAS Officers is conducted at LBSNAA. The second phase is conducted at CENTRAD at New Delhi.
- The next phase of training is conducted at National Institute of Financial Management, Faridabad and the final phase is at National Academy of Defence Financial Management Institute located at Pune.
- In total the training period is conducted for 24 months.

Indian Defence Accounts Service Career Growth
In terms of career IDAS Service officers have the following prospects-
- Upon induction, IDAS cadre officers are assigned as Assistant Controllers of Defence Accounts, typically posted in municipal towns with cantonments.
- As they progress, they are promoted to the role of Deputy Controllers of Defence Accounts, with postings generally in state capital cities.
- In senior positions, IDAS officers serve at Command Headquarters, overseeing key defence accounting functions.
