UPSC IPS Eligibility Criteria 2025 for Nationality

To be eligible for the Indian Police Service (IPS) Exam conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), candidates must meet certain nationality requirements. According to the UPSC IPS Eligibility Criteria 2025, the following individuals qualify for registration:

  1. Aspirants having Indian citizenship are eligible.
  2. Citizens of Nepal or Bhutan, Nationals from these countries can also apply.
  3. Tibetan Refugees, those who arrived in India before January 1, 1962, with the intent of permanently settling in the country are eligible.
  4. Persons of Indian Origin includes individuals who have migrated from countries such as Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, and various East African nations (like Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia), or Vietnam, with the intention of permanent residency in India.

UPSC IPS Educational Qualification 2025

The UPSC IPS Educational Qualification 2025 is an important aspect of the eligibility criteria for the Indian Police Service (IPS) exam under UPSC. To be eligible, candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree in designated subjects.

Candidates must have graduated with at least one of the following subjects:

  1. Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science
  2. Botany
  3. Chemistry
  4. Geology
  5. Mathematics
  6. Physics
  7. Statistics
  8. Zoology

Alternatively, candidates can qualify with a bachelor’s degree in any of the following fields:

  1. Agriculture
  2. Forestry
  3. Engineering (in any discipline)

IPS Height Requirements

Aspirants have to fulfill the below minimum IPS Height Requirements for the IPS Exam 2025, For a male candidate, 165 cm is the minimum height required. For a female candidate, 150 cm is the minimum height required. The candidates who have applied from the Scheduled Tribe are provided with the relaxation of 5 cm each.

IPS Weight Requirements

There are no specific upper IPS Weight Requirements. However, candidates must be physically fit and free from any conditions or deformities that could hinder their ability to carry out their responsibilities. 

Physical fitness is a crucial requirement, and officers must successfully complete a fitness assessment that typically includes activities such as a 100-meter sprint, long jump, 800-meter run, high jump, and shot put. 

IPS Eye Requirements

As the IPS Officers has the roles and responsibilities related to the precise targeting and enforcement of the law, therefore they have to maintain some minimum IPS Eye Requirements:

  • Distant Vision:
      1. Normal Vision: Should ideally be 6/6 or 6/9.
      2. Mildly Poor Vision: Can be acceptable at 6/12 or 6/9 at most.
  • Near Vision:
      1. For a Normal Eye: Must meet the J1** standard.
      2. For a Poorer Eye: Corrected vision must reach J2**.
  • Permissible Corrections:
      1. Candidates with poor eyesight can use spectacles or colored lenses.
      2. Corrective surgeries such as LASIK, IoL, and others are allowed, but prior procedures must be declared. Such cases are referred to a special ophthalmological board for further evaluation.
  • Refractive Error Allowance:
    1. Individuals with Myopia exceeding -6.00D must disclose their condition and will be referred to a specialized ophthalmological board.

IPS Physical Training

Once the candidates fulfills the IPS Eligibility Criteria 2025 and the UPSC CSE 2025, the candidate has to undergo an intensive training which is two-year training program begins with a three-month foundation course at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) in Mussoorie. 

Following the foundation course, candidates proceed to the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (NPA) in Hyderabad for eleven months of specialized academic training. At the NPA, trainees receive a mix of theoretical and practical lessons in areas such as law enforcement, criminal investigation, public relations, physical fitness, and self-defense.
