The Civil Services Examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is one of the most prestigious and challenging exams in India. Among the various options of optional subjects offered in the UPSC Mains Exam 2025, Sanskrit holds a unique place for aspirants with a strong command over the classical language. However, preparing for Sanskrit as an optional subject demands a thorough understanding of its structure, paper pattern, and depth of syllabus. To assist candidates in their preparation journey, we have provided a collection of UPSC Sanskrit Optional Previous Year Question Papers from the past years.
UPSC Sanskrit Optional Previous Year Question Papers
The UPSC Mains Exam 2025 consists of two types of papers: qualifying papers and papers that are counted for merit. There are a total of seven papers, of which five are compulsory and two are optional. The language paper and the English paper are qualifying in nature, meaning they do not contribute to the final merit ranking. All the other papers, including the optional subjects, are considered for calculating the candidate’s merit. This structure ensures that candidates demonstrate proficiency in language skills, while their overall ranking is based on their performance in the merit-based papers.
