Wing Commander Vyomika Singh is a decorated helicopter pilot in the Indian Air Force. Along with Colonel Sofiya Quereshi she recently gave the nation a comprehensive account of Operation Sindoor. They presented the maps of terror camps in Pakistan along with footage of strikes which were carried out in response to the killing of 26 Indian tourists in a terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22. Wing Commander Vyomika Singh Early Life

Wing Commander Vyomika Singh’s journey began with a eureka moment when she was in class 6th. Her teacher was discussing the meaning of the names of all students and suddenly she realised that ‘Vyom’ means sky and thus ‘Vyomika’ means the one who owns the sky. Thus began her fascination with sky and inner urge to own it. She got herself enrolled in NCC and later went on to pursue B.Tech which provided her apt foundation for her aviation career.

Wing Commander Vyomika Singh Career

After completing her B.tech, Wing Commander Vyomika Singh cleared the UPSC Exam and became the first in her family to become part of Armed Forces. She was commissioned as helicopter pilot in Indian Air force in 2024 under 21st Short Service Commision for women. She rose to Wing Commander rank in 2017 and was subsequently granted permanent commission in 2019.  

Wing Commander Vyomika Singh Achievements 

After undergoing rigorous training in defence academy Wing Commander Vyomika Singh quickly stood out for her skills, leadership qualities, determination and quick thinking. All this laid the foundation for a stellar career ahead. 

• She has clocked more than 2500 hours of high altitude flying in helicopters like Cheetah and Chetak in one of the toughest terrains of Jammu and Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh.
• Over the years she has commanded several high stake rescue and relief operations of the Indian Air Force. Her precise and sharp decision making is what has been pivotal in her career growth and progression. 
• In 2021 she participated in an all women tri-service mountaineering expedition to Mount Manirang (2,1630 feet ) in Himachal Pradesh. The demanding climb to crown of Spiti Valley commemorated 75 years of India’s Independence

All this earned her recognition from Sr. Defence officials including Chief of Air Staff.
