International Women’s Day Origin 

International Women’s Day originated in the 1900s, when women started going out to work and gained voting rights and demanded equal pay as men. In 1908, more than 15,000 women marched through New York City demanding voting rights, equal pay.

The idea of international women’s day was proposed in 1910, by Clara Zetkin, a German socialist and women’s right activist. She wanted to promote gender equality at the International Socialist Women’s Conference in Copenhagen and the proposal was accepted, setting 8 March as the official date. In 1917, during the Russian Women’s Strike, women protested for “bread and peace” during World War I.
