IRTS Officers from this cadre hold the responsibility to manage the transportation department of the Indian railways and for revenue generation for the Indian Railways. Indian Railway Traffic Service Roles and Responsibilities

The Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) Officers hold the major responsibility of overseeing the transportation of the Indian Railways. Below mentioned are some of the key roles and responsibilities of IRTS Officers:

1. IRTS Officers optimise the resource allocation and ensure efficient train operations.
2. They manage the customer interface of railways, by enhancing the passenger experience which includes amenities, services, and customer engagement.
3. IRTS Officers ensure the planning and executing train movements, resolving operational challenges, and minimizing disruptions.
4. Officers also contribute to revenue generation and customer satisfaction by managing sales, pricing, services, and marketing for both passenger and freight operations. 
5. IRTS Officers also have the opportunity to work on deputation in other ministries and through the Central Staffing Scheme.
