The indigenous Tribes of Andaman and Nicobar Islands are broadly divided into six major tribes based on their geographical distribution, physical features, culture and way of life. The islands were originally inhabited only by these native communities before the establishment of the Penal Settlement at Port Blair in 1858, after which settlers from mainland India and other regions arrived. 

The four Andaman tribes are generally associated with the Negrito group, while the Nicobarese and Shompen belong to the Mongoloid group. These communities differ significantly in language, customs, social organisation and traditional occupations.

  • Traditional occupation: The Onges are semi nomadic hunter gatherers who depend on hunting, fishing and forest resources while also producing traditional canoes and handicrafts.

  • The rapid growth of crypto-assets has posed significant challenges for tax authorities worldwide. Unlike traditional financial assets, crypto-assets can be transferred across borders with relative ease, making it difficult for governments to identify taxable transactions and curb tax evasion.
  • To address this issue, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) developed the Crypto-Asset Reporting Framework (CARF) in 2022.

Maulana Abul Kalam Azad was the first Education Minister of independent India. A freedom fighter, scholar, journalist, and senior leader of the Indian National Congress, he played a crucial role in building the foundation of India’s modern education system.
