• Kud Dance: Kud is a community dance of the middle mountain ranges of Jammu. Villagers gather near the Gramdevta after maize harvesting during the rainy season to express gratitude for protection of crops, cattle and children.
• Dheku Dance: Dheku is a famous Bhaderwah dance also called Kudd or Kodd. It is known as Dev Nritya and features concentric circles of dancers moving to dhol, narsingha, flute and bells.
• Chajja Dance: Chajja, also called Dandaras or the peacock dance, is performed during Lohri in Jammu. Boys carry large decorated peacock models while dancing in processions accompanied by drums and shehnai.
• Haran: Haran is a Dogri folk opera combining dance, drama and music. It is performed before Lohri in Duggar villages and includes a decorated deer character formed by two performers.
• Bhagtian: Bhagtiaan combines dance, music and dramatization in the Jammu region. Performers use dhol, Chhaina and Manjira, while call and response singing creates interaction between the lead singer, chorus and audience.
• Jagarna: Jagarna is traditionally performed by women of the bridegroom’s family during weddings. They dress like men, dance through the night and use humour while the male members are away with the wedding procession.
• Geetru: Geetru is a traditional Dogra Pahari dance song performed by rural groups during festivals, feasts and weddings. Both boys and girls participate while wearing traditional costumes.
• Phummian: Phummian is associated with rural communities between Jammu’s uplands and plains. The Dogri word means “blooming,” and dancers open and close their fingers to represent flowers in bloom.
• Paddari Kharzath: Paddari Kharzath is a traditional folk dance and musical form of Paddar Valley in Kishtwar district. It represents the distinctive cultural traditions of the valley.
• Challant: Challant is a traditional folk song and dance form of Kishtwar. It is associated with weddings, festivals and community occasions and uses alternating verses and group choruses.
• Gouria: Gouria or Ghureyi is performed by married women whose husbands are alive in honour of Goran Mata. Women dance in circles during marriages, birthdays, mundans and Kanchoth.
• Gojri Dance: Gojri Dance belongs to the Gujjar community, including nomadic groups moving between plains and mountains seasonally. Men and women perform it at weddings in traditional dress to express happiness.
• Pahari Dance: Pahari Dance represents the cultural traditions of mountain communities. The term Pahari means people associated with the mountains and the dance reflects their lifestyle and regional cultural identity.
• Rouf Dance: Rouf is a prominent Kashmiri women’s dance performed during festive occasions, especially Ramzan evenings and Eid. Women face each other and perform coordinated footwork with pleasant poetic songs.
• Dhamali: Dhamali is a devotional dance performed by men in Kashmir to seek blessings of saints and seers. A flag bearer leads the procession before dancers form a circle around the Alam.
• Bach Nagma: Bach Nagma is a Kashmiri folk dance performed by young male dancers, particularly during harvest celebrations and cultural gatherings. Usually six or seven performers participate, with one leading the singing.
• Hafiz Nagma: Hafiz Nagma is an elegant Kashmiri dance linked with Sufiana Mousiqui. It is traditionally performed by female dancers called Hafizas and has historical associations with the Mughal period.
• Wuegi-Nachun: Wuegi-Nachun is performed by Kashmiri Pandit women after wedding rituals when the bride leaves her parental home. The dancers gather around the bridal rangoli during the ceremony.
• Dumhal: Dumhal is a traditional Kashmiri dance performed by men of the Wattal community on special occasions. Dancers wear colourful robes and conical caps and perform around a banner planted in the ground.
• Bhand Jashan: Bhand Jashan is a Kashmiri group performance presented in traditional style. It involves around 10 to 15 dancers and uses light music during the performance.
• Bhand Pather: Bhand Pather is Kashmiri folk theatre combining acting, dance and satire. Bhands perform realistic dramas based on mythological legends and contemporary social issues at cultural and social functions.
